In February 2017 Sustainable Coastlines completed the build of their new Flagship Education & Events Centre on Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter to the Living Building Challenge Specification.
The Living Building Challenge is a building certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible today. Making the commitment to build to the Living Building Challenge specifications was no easy task, but by inspiring the community around them, and sourcing suppliers fluent with the Declare Red List Free building code, confidence in the build grew and grew. The Flagship is truly a flagship for Sustainable Design and using cleaner building materials. Mohawk Groups' EcoFlex NXT PVC-Free modular carpet tiles were selected to finish the floor. Keeping with the theme of building cleaner and using less toxic materials, adhesives, sealants and chemicals; the carpet was installed using Mohawk Groups FlexLok tabs,a no-glue adhesive tab system replacing the old method of using a full adhesive spread over the floor. Product Used: Mohawk Group Emerging Lights II colour Galactic Backing: EcoFlex NXT PVC-Free Modular Backing. Face Fibre: Duracolor. Accolades: Declare Red List Free, Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), Green Tag Certified, 56% recycled content, 100% recyclable through the NZ ReCover Stewardship take back scheme. CarboNZero certified delivery pathway. Sustainable Coastlines’ Flagship is open to the public 7 days a week, and is located on the corner of Beaumont and Madden Streets in Wynyard Quarter. The building is available for hire for events, and is free to use for registered New Zealand charities.
